in the end

had an interview scheduled yesterday morning, but i called them up and cancelled it. i think the only reason i went for it was out of boredom, but then i calculated i had only been looking for 8 days and it was a bit early for me to start reducing my expectations. the company it was for was not that great and the neither was the money. anyways, as it happens i got calls today about a couple of other jobs in much better firms paying more money. hopefully something comes through over the next couple of weeks. am also waiting to hear back from a few other places from last week. these things take time.

i have football tonight and its going to an extra long 90 minutes of 5 a side. its also gotten a lot colder today, so there will be motivation to run around even more than usual. am expecting to be shattered by the end of it. have also been gyming regular as well. feel better for it and the resistance is coming back. it will take a week or two to get back to where i was but i have already improved in the last 2 weeks since being back.

today i have mostly been listening to snow patrol - in the end. to be honest i find quite a lot of their stuff a bit wet. this is one of their better tunes but i dont rate the video though.

first aid kit

have been back a week from cali and with each passing day i am reminded how shit london is. from when i landed last sunday and was getting the train home, only to be told that there was a signal failure on the picadilly line and it took me 30 mins longer to get home than it should. it was not so bad for me, but in the opposite direction, if you were catching a plane and the trains were fucked, you could miss your plane or at least turn up very late for it. thats the kind of hassle and stress no one needs to start their holiday with. i had noticed people leaving the train station and running into the terminal building.

weather has been mixed. some nice days, some showery drizzly days, some cloudy dull days. mostly its been shit.
have started going to the gym this week and cycled both days this weekend. was good to get out on the bike as i had not cycled for a month. have been easing myself back into it and am feeling a little sore, but less so with each passing session. the hot girl who is a model (she must be i presume as she is too tall and too skinny and well turned out), was in my gym today. its the little things in life that perk you up.

went out on friday night and met up with the other 2 guys i worked with at the hedge fund last year. they seemed well but just feel fed up. i think they envy the fact that i am not working there any more.

had a couple of calls about jobs. 3 different investment banks, one of which is paying less than i usually get paid, one the same and one more. its a nice spread. it will be interesting if any of them call me in. the girl recruiting for them sounded quite impressed by the names already on my resume. lets hope the banks are equally so. i dont want to be sitting around for few months. if it was summer it would be nice, but in january, i may as well be earning so i can take time off in the nice weather, as opposed to having time off when its shitty and working through the summer.

today i have mostly been listening to first aid kit -the lions roar. wicked tune.

Holiday Part 2

....so i got to san francisco that evening on the monday night and spent the evening catching up with my friend and her family. they live in a beautiful house just south of san fran. the next morning i took the train into the city and did some shopping and just strolled around in the sunshine. the weather, i am told, was unseasonably nice and warm compared to what they usually get at the beginning of january. in the evening we all met up and went out for dinner.

next day i packed all my stuff and set off for the 20 minute drive to mountain view, to meet another friend of mine who was working on a web startup project that he had gotten funding from a silicon valley venture capital firm. have been through silicon valley before a lot and you really feel like you are at the center of the tech world. its the equivalent of being in paris for fashion. cisco, apple, yahoo, facebook, google, are all based in the small towns in the valley and the cafes are full of people with their ibooks working on the next big idea. had lunch at a thai restaurante and then hit the road for the long drive to san diego. stopped off briefly at the san luiz reservoir but then hit the road and blasted it down the I-5.

got san diego around 9:30pm. i can drive for hours during daylight hours but as soon as it gets dark, it really makes me feel tired. by the time i got the to the hotel i was ready to hit the sack.
next day i went to to coronado and spent most of my time at the beach.

went back into town in the evening and grabbed a couple of slices at ciros pizza on market street. have been there before a couple of times, and aside from there being a hot waitress there sometimes, they do great pizza as well.

the next day i went to the air and space museum in balboa park, and then drove to mission beach and spent the rest of the day there. i needed a couple of relaxing beach days at the end where i did very little. that was to be my last full day in cali as next morning i drove back to LAX to fly back.

i did what i usually do on my final day in LA. i grabbed some lunch on melrose at la la's argentine grill, and then headed to the airport.

i took a lot of music with me and each trip tends to have a particular band associated with it. last time i went i listened to editors a lot. this time, i found myself listening to the verve a lot and especially this song.

Holiday Part 1

got back from los angeles yesterday afternoon from my wonderful 9 days in california and las vegas.

i got there on thursday 5th jan and my plane was about an hour late departing london and arriving in LA. picked up my hire car and headed into hollywood to my hotel. it was evening rush hour in LA and so i got to my hotel around 7pm. checked in and popped out for something to eat and then went to bed early as i was tired from the long flight and i had to be up early next morning to pickup a couple of the guys from football who were arriving from australia and stopping off for a few days, on their way back to london.

i picked them up on friday morning and that day we went around hollywood doing touristy things as they had never been to LA before. we also went up to griffith observatory and in the evening we went to see the la lakers v golden state warriors at the staples center. had never really been to downtown LA much before. jesus!, its not the LA they show on tv. it was rough and although the building are new and shiny, it looked like not the kind of place you would want to be out late in.

the next day, saturday, we headed over to santa monica and went to the beach, played some classic old skool arcades and got something to eat. later in the afternoon we headed off on our 4 hour drive to las vegas.

we got to Las Vegas around 9pm and after checking in we went for a stroll long the strip and into a few of the casinos. i dont gamble and i dont even know the rules to play the games, but its still an interesting place for people watching and gawdy architecture.

the next day, sunday, we went to one of the outlet malls and i picked up some things i needed and then in the afternoon we had a buffet at the luxor casino and spent the rest of the evening going round the casinos, losing a little money on blackjack and going to the hotel bar.

the other 2 guys had to catch their plane back to london the following day, so i drove them back to LA where we all had lunch at la la's on melrose, and then around 2pm i headed off for my 6 hour drive to san francisco......
